Whose footsteps will you follow? Colin Firth or Keira Knightley? Our Peak District Pride & Prejudice Tours have been hugely popular, with devotees of Jane Austen's novel visiting from all around the world. Two famous productions were filmed around the Peak District national park. The 1995 BBC version, starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, and the 2005 movie version starring Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen. But which one do you prefer? We now offer a separate tour devoted to each version, as well as a third option where those who can't decide can choose their own itinerary based on both. We are proud to be able to offer a range of Peak District tours dedicated to Pride & Prejudice and our customers can now choose between three distinct tours for ultimate Pride & Prejudice experience. Tour 1 concentrates on all things BBC, especially for devotees of Colin Firth's Mr Darcy or Jennifer Ehle's Elizabeth Bennet. This tour includes a visit to two wonderful country houses which were used as Pemberley in the BBC production. One for the exterior, and the other for the interior. So, as well as strolling through the landscaped gardens and the lake where Colin Firth famously took a dip and simultaneously fluttered the hearts of an untold number of viewers, our guests can explore the sumptuous surroundings of Pemberley's interiors too. (Despite the two being around 30 miles apart!) This tour also drives through some wonderful scenery across the National Park and our guests can wander amongst the rocks where Jennifer stands and surveys the beautiful, gritstone landscape. We will also visit the picturesque Peak village which was used by the BBC as Lambton, with it's narrow cobbled streets. Meanwhile, those who opt for Tour 2 can cover all things Keira. This tour includes a visit to the magnificent Chatsworth House, where there is an option to sample a quintessentially English experience, taking afternoon tea in sumptuous surroundings. The tour also includes an option to visit the wonderful, medieval manor house, Haddon Hall, which has been used as a location in countless historical movies and tv productions, including Pride & Prejudice, of course.
Our guests can also climb on to the cliffs and stand on the actual point where Keira famously gazed across the vast landscape. And, of course, no visit to the area can be complete without a stroll around the bustling market town of Bakewell, thought to be Jane Austen's inspiration for Lambton and home to the famous Bakewell Pudding Shop. For those who are a little more impartial, Tour 3 is an opportunity to select locations from either production, so if you would like to include locations from both, that is fine. We can design a day particularly around your preferences. All of our tours can include as much or as little walking as you prefer and are suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness. We have room for 6 passengers in spacious comfort and have plenty of room for a folding wheelchair or small mobility scooter if needed. All of our tours offer the option for us to pick up and drop off at your accommodation or a convenient railway station, where we can meet you from your train. For those travelling to or from London, we would suggest Chesterfield, which has a direct train to London St Pancras. We also offer transfers around the UK if you would like to relax and leave the driving to us. Find out more details and check prices and availability by clicking here.
