Edale is something of an essential village to visit for hikers and lovers of the great outdoors. Despite being completely surrounded by spectacular scenery, with the slopes of Kinder Scout on one side and the Great Ridge on the other, Edale is easily accessible by train, being on the scenic Manchester to Sheffield line. Many visitors tend to walk from Edale over Mamtor and down the other side to Castleton. Both villages have some lovely places to eat and drink for those who don't fancy the climb.
Edale is also noted as being the starting point of the UK's most famous long distance walk, the Pennine Way.
