Come along and explore the enchanting world of James Herriot, as featured in the Channel 5/PBS version of All Creatures Great and Small. Explore the charming village of "Darrowby", enjoy a pint in the Drovers and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park along the way. The recent version of All Creatures has been a massive success on Channel 5 in the UK and is now gaining a loyal following around the world, with viewers enjoying the escape to the genteel, pastoral world in the company of James, Helen, Mrs Hall and the irrepressible Siegried. Accompanied by a supporting cast of animals and country folk, the much loved adaptation pays tribute to the work of veterinarian and author Alfred Wight, known to millions as James Herriot. This tour is very close to our hearts at Live For The Hills. I don't want to say too much about our link with the show, but if you check out our "About Us" page and the end credits from the show, you might spot a name in common! Not only that, but I've also been coerced into appearing in a couple of episodes myself. (Only visible to the very keen observer!) So our tour includes the lovely village of Grassington, which is used as Darrowby in the programme. The market place often features on the show, with the vets' surgery and the Drovers Arms on either side of the cobbled streets. We also head out around the stunning scenery of the national park to various locations used for filming, including Helen's farm, the church where James and Helen tied the knot and many more. Along the way, we can tell you stories of the making of the series and also Alf Wight. The beauty of our tours being private and bespoke, means that if you have a favourite scene or location, we will try and include it - except for the inside of Skeldale House because that is a secret! One of the more intriguing places is the historic pub that was used as the interior of the Drovers (the pub in Grassington is only the exterior!). The pub dates back to medieval times but has another claim to fame - involving a waterfall, Robin Hood and Kevin Costner skinny-dipping!) One of the stars of the show is the stunning scenery. It's easy to forget the modern world as we wander along winding, narrow roads lined with limestone dry stone walls, over little bridges and tumbling streams. We've already diverted from James Herriot to Robin Hood, so we might as well pay homage to another legendary pair - Wallace and Gromit (what would Tricky Woo say?!) - with an opportunity total in to the wonderful Wensleydale Creamery for a nice bit of Wensleydale... So come to Herriot country with us for a magical day in the Dales. We'll get the kettle on.
