Explore The Plague Village Of Eyam

Picture
Discover the fascinating history of the Plague Village of Eyam, whose inhabitants closed themselves off from the rest of the world in the 17th Century to prevent the spreading of the deadly disease. As well as the Plague cottages and the unique village church, we will also have the opportunity to walk to local iconic locations around the outskirts of the village which illustrate the tragic history of the area, set amidst stunning views of the iconic Peak District landscape.

After exploring the area, we will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch in a unique farmhouse kitchen, serving home-made Afro-Caribbean food, where you have the opportunity to find out more about the area from the expert guide. Alternatively, lunch can be enjoyed at a traditional local pub.

The tour will then take us through the beautiful countryside to the village of Hathersage, with its historic church, to explore its links to Charlotte Bronte and Jane Eyre, as well as visiting the grave of Robin Hood's famous lieutenant, Little John.
From Hathersage, it's another scenic drive through the atmospheric and spectacular landscape of the Dark Peak to enjoy a short walk to one of the Peak District's most iconic viewpoints.

The tour itinerary can be flexible to include as much or as little walking as our guests prefer and is suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness.

We will pick you up from your accommodation or a convenient point as per prior arrangements.

We will travel to the Plague Village of Eyam and explore the local area, including optional walks to local points of interest.

Lunch is provided, with an option to visit Stella's Kitchen or a traditional Peak District pub.

Scenic drive through the national park to Hathersage, to visit the parish church with connections to Jane Eyre and Little John.
Scenic drive up to the Dark Peak area with an opportunity to enjoy a short walk to either Stanage Edge or Higger Tor, offering unsurpassed views across the national park.

We can pick you up from your preferred Peak District accommodation or location (as well as locations further afield). We usually suggest a 10am start and would expect to be back at your drop off point around 5:30.

Refreshment stops are available throughout the day. Lunch is included.

We would recommend waterproofs and sensible outdoor shoes. We can supply umbrellas so you don’t need to worry about that. You are welcome to bring food and drink along with you if you prefer, although refreshment stops are available throughout the day. Oh, and don't forget your camera!
