Explore the unique history of the village of Eyam and the beautiful landscape of the Dark Peak
We're delighted to offer this tour as part of the English National Parks Experience Collection, which launches in 2019, "offering a collection of magical, memorable experiences set in places that are truly extraordinary - telling the story of our unique landscapes and the people that look after them".
The tour focuses on the fascinating village of Eyam, set amidst the beautiful hills and dales of the Peak District national park. The village took the brave step of cutting itself off from the outside world during an outbreak of the Plague in 1665, in order to prevent the further spreading of the disease. 259 villagers perished during the outbreak and visitors to the village can explore the unique story.
As well as visiting the historic parish church, our guests will have the opportunity to wander further afield from the centre of the village, to explore such locations as Mompesson's Well, the Riley Graves and the Boundary Stone, where the inhabitants of Eyam drilled holes into the stone and left money in vinegar, for outsiders who would leave food and supplies.

The tour also includes the opportunity to enjoy lunch locally, at either Stella's Kitchen, which is a wonderful farmhouse kitchen serving homemade Afro Caribbean fare, or a traditional Peak District pub, serving locally sourced food and drink.
After lunch, we will take a drive through the wonderful scenery of the national park, to the village of Hathersage. Once there, we can visit another historic village church with links to Jane Eyre, also famous as the resting place of Robin Hood's faithful lieutenant, Little John.
From Hathersage, we will then drive up to the beautiful Dark Peak with an opportunity to enjoy a short walk to an iconic Peak District viewpoint at Stanage Edge or Higger Tor, where we can learn more about the unique history of the area.
The tour includes spacious and comfortable transport in a VW Caravelle Executive, for groups of 1 to 6 passengers. We can pick up and drop off right from the door of your accommodation or from a local railway station.
Prices from £140 per person, including lunch, with discounts for bookings of more than 3 passengers. For more details and to check availability, please click here.
